BEAMING FOCUS GROUP PROMOTES BIOECONOMY INNOVATION IN WESTERN MACEDONIA
The BEAMING project recently organised a workshop as part of its Bioeconomy Focus Group in Western Macedonia, bringing together key stakeholders from government, industry, academia, and local communities. The event provided a platform to discuss regional bioeconomy challenges and opportunities while promoting knowledge exchange between experts. As part of the workshop, participants were also introduced to the BIOTRANSFORM project, which supports policymakers in advancing circular bio-based systems.

During the discussion, experts explored how projects like BIOTRANSFORM contribute to the transition from fossil-based to circular bioeconomy models. The project offers European policymakers valuable tools and frameworks for setting sustainable priorities aligned with economic, environmental, and social objectives. CluBE – the Cluster of Bioeconomy and Environment of Western Macedonia – played a key role in presenting ongoing initiatives that support bioeconomy governance and innovation in the region.

The workshop also featured an interactive session using MentiMeter, where participants identified major challenges and opportunities for the bioeconomy sector in Western Macedonia. Key concerns included insufficient infrastructure and bureaucratic barriers, while potential opportunities highlighted included access to European funding and enhanced stakeholder collaboration. The discussion further explored synergies with the energy sector and the need for greater public awareness and education on bioeconomy practices.

By facilitating dialogue among diverse stakeholders, the BEAMING Focus Group reaffirmed the importance of cross-sector collaboration in driving bioeconomy innovation. The outcomes of this meeting will contribute to ongoing efforts to align regional strategies with European bioeconomy policies, fostering a more sustainable and inclusive economic transition in Western Macedonia.
