THE BEAMING PROJECT AT THE BIOECONOMY CHANGEMAKERS FESTIVAL
On March 14, 2024, The Bioeconomy Changemakers festival served as the perfect platform for the unveiling of the BEAMING project, aimed at fostering collaboration among higher education institutions in Central and Eastern Europe, Southeast Europe, and the Western Balkans to bolster the bioeconomy. As the sole country outside the EU to participate, we took pride in our involvement across more than 30 locations in 18 countries. With over 100 students and 50 researchers engaging in discussions, the event provided a robust forum to explore the challenges and opportunities within the bioeconomy sector.
During the festival, attendees had the privilege of learning about the key initiatives driving Serbia’s bioeconomy agenda. Representatives from the Government of Serbia outlined the pillars of the new Bio4 Campus, a significant EUR 450 million investment set to house over 1000 PhDs across 300 laboratories spanning 200,000 square meters. Insights shared by Nenad Paunovic shed light on Serbia’s strategic objectives and pathways toward bioeconomic advancement.
Moreover, panels led by industry experts delved into crucial topics such as the role of agriculture and bioenergy. Discussions moderated by Vesna Neskovic and Milivoj Radojcin explored regenerative agriculture, alternative protein sources, nature-based solutions for climate change, and regulatory frameworks. The event also showcased two Centers of Excellence at the UNSFA, emphasizing the institution’s commitment to addressing climate change and vector diseases. Additionally, the presentation of over 20 projects funded by the European Commission and the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia highlighted ongoing efforts to drive innovation in the bioeconomy.
The event was organised by the University of Novi Sad, Faculty of Agriculture.
