RESEARCHERS UNITE FOR OPEN SCIENCE IN BIOECONOMY EXCHANGE

As part of the Horizon Europe BEAMING project, leading bioeconomy experts recently gathered to advance Open Science collaboration across Central, Eastern, and Southeast Europe. The exchange began at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU) in Vienna, where representatives from the University of Banja Luka, the Hungarian Innovation Agency, and the Serbian Institute for Development and Innovation (IRI) explored Open Science strategies and attended Austria’s Research Data Expo. The event provided a platform for stakeholders to discuss the latest developments in research data management, digital infrastructure, and cross-border cooperation.

Shortly after, a delegation travelled to University Educons in Novi Sad, continuing discussions on technology transfer and the impact of Open Science in bioeconomy research. Experts shared best practices, highlighted challenges in implementing Open Science policies, and worked towards harmonising data-sharing standards. The meetings facilitated a deeper understanding of how transparent and collaborative research can drive innovation and accelerate sustainable development in the region.

These collaborations reinforced the role of Open Science in fostering innovation and cooperation across borders. Participants emphasised the importance of building long-term partnerships and developing training initiatives to equip researchers with the necessary tools for Open Science implementation. Through BEAMING, institutions continue to build a more integrated research landscape, shaping a competitive and sustainable bioeconomy for the future while ensuring that scientific knowledge is more accessible and impactful on a global scale.
