BEAMING HIGHLIGHTS THE ROLE OF EDUCATION IN ADVANCING THE BIOECONOMY IN THE BIOEAST CONFERENCE

On November 20, 2024, the European Commission hosted a workshop in Brussels titled “Bioeconomy education to enable the transition to a competitive, regenerative, and fair (bio)economy.” Organized by the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation, this event brought together experts and stakeholders to discuss the role of education and skill development in achieving Europe’s green transition and bioeconomy goals. The workshop also featured active participation from partners of the BEAMING project.

Representing the Faculty of Forestry at the University of Banja Luka, Prof. Dragan Čomić contributed to discussions exploring the current state of bioeconomy education and its alignment with EU strategies. Among the key topics addressed were findings from the study “Promote education, training, and skills across the bioeconomy,” the projected impact of EU policies on skill development, and successful examples of bioeconomy-focused education programs across Europe. Special emphasis was placed on involving youth in shaping the future of the bioeconomy through initiatives like the “Bioeconomy Youth Ambassadors” programme.

The event reinforced the role of education as a cornerstone for the green transition and bioeconomy development. By integrating insights from projects like BEAMING, the European Commission continues to pave the way for a competitive and regenerative bioeconomy, ensuring that Europe’s workforce is prepared to meet future challenges.
